iS cHANGE HARD? Where Do We Begin?
Take control of your emotions, take control of your reactions and take control of your life.
Have you ever wondered why the things that bother us happen in an instant but can take years to overcome, if you ever do? This is what happens when you lose someone or experience the trauma behind PTSD. I think the reason is that we, following therapists’ and self-help techniques’ advice, attempt to use consciousness to change itself. While we may be able to improve our thoughts for a while, we can’t change the underlying emotion that drives us and makes us react the way we do.
I think that Psychological observations about human behavior are correct; it is their greatest strength. Psychologists study what people and animals do. The psychological model uses studies of how mice and pigeons learn and apply them to human beings. It is the best model they have. For psychologists, one brain is pretty much like another; they are full of interconnected nerves and similar structures. What works for one Mind should work for another.
Emotions are slipperier than behaviors; there is no way of directly measuring them, and psychology has no tools to directly change them. Because of this limitation, psychologists work on what they can. They try to alter emotional upsets by changing their client’s thoughts and activities. Sadly, no matter how many times you tell yourself, “Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better,” you don’t change or feel any different. Psychology and psychiatry share this limitation. Drugs work on the brain and reduce anxiety and other feelings, but when you stop using them, the feelings return.
I see how to change the Mind differently than my fellow traditional Psychologists. People are not mice. Mice not conscious; mice are purely reactive to external stimuli; they have a brain but are not self-aware. A model of changing humans built on studying mice ignores that reality. Ask yourself, have you ever met a depressed or grieving mouse or pigeon? If you did, it was in the comics or a cartoon. Mice are known to eat their dead mates, offspring and cage mates. They don’t grieve them.
The treatments offered on this site do not attempt to talk you out of your problems, or try to have you talk yourself out of your upsets. There is no attempt to inspire you or to convince you of anything. AFT is an experience, not a dogma. AFT changes your upsetting feelings. AFT can reset your Mind almost as fast as you can upset it.
Where do you begin? Go to the treatment you need. All of the treatments on this site take less than an hour. Most people are amazed at what they accomplish in an hour.
